Rwanda is a country of incredible scenery and the kindest, most helpful people.
It is called the land of a thousand hills, but on a boat trip from Rubona to Kibuye on Lac Kivu, I thought the land of a million hills would be more apt.
This piece of mokumé was having an identity problem for a couple of years. Upon my return from Africa, this piece just spoke about the mountains, their reflection in the lake and the openness of the Rwandan people. I pulled up the map to show my husband the lake and the towns…. thinking this would be my Kibuye pendant… but the piece was the shape of Lac Kivu on the map….. hence… my Lac Kivu Necklace. The piece knew what it wanted to be.
